Highlighting a Successful Year:  Part 2

Our students and staff at Achieve Virtual have had an incredible year.  I’d like to take this time highlight some of the wonderful things going on in our classes this year.  Meet some of our teachers and the unique learning experiences going on in their courses.  In part 2 of this mini blog series, learn how three of our instructors are providing authentic, collaborative experiences for our Achieve students.

Mr. Medley – Science Department

Mr. Medley teaches concepts in his Earth Space Science course using a variety of great tools.  He has been allowing students to explore and interact with relevant, authentic content from sites like NBC Learn and Learn 360.  He uses current events and newscasts to teach difficult concepts.  Our students love the authentic experiences Mr. Medley and his course provide. 

Ms. Dawn – World Language Department

Ms. Dawn has been busy building courses using My Big Campus.  The courses she designs in this learning environment are built around collaborative and communicative experiences.  The students like the social media-like aspect of the environment and Ms. Dawn likes that her students can easily and effectively communicate and collaborate with her and with each other. 

Mrs. Aykroyd – English Department

If you are a student in Mrs. Aykroyd’s english courses, you spend a lot of your course time interacting with other students in your class.  Mrs. Aykroyd does a fantastic job of building community and allowing her students to collaborate.  In this example you can see how she uses discussion forums to allow students to communicate with each other in formal and informal ways.
