Jenny Aykroyd has been teaching at AVE since 2012 and is no stranger to Wayne Township. Mrs. Aykroyd began her teaching career at Ben Davis High School in 2001 and has served as an English Department Chairperson, as an Itech teacher, and she was the AVE “Teacher of the Year” for 2014.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Physical Education from Grand Valley State University and her master’s degree in Educational Technology from Indiana University. She spent eight years coaching the Ben Davis Brain Game team and took this team to four national academic tournaments representing the state of Indiana.
Mrs. Aykroyd married her college sweetheart and together they have two children. She spends her free time reading and playing sports with her kids.

Mrs. Lindsay Thomas
Lindsay Thomas is in her third year with AVE. She has thoroughly enjoyed venturing into the world of online education! She is a Guidance Counselor at Cardinal Ritter High School where she works with students in grades 9-12. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English Education and her master’s degree in School Counseling at Ball State University. She serves on a number of committees at Cardinal Ritter and is the moderator for the Junior Class and the Prom Committee. She is also an adjunct English instructor for the Upward Bound program at IUPUI. She and her husband recently welcomed their daughter, Eva, who was born in April.
Mr. Jason Brown
Jason Brown is in his second year with AVE. He has taught at the Middle & High School levels in the Indianapolis community. He enjoys working with students in a variety of courses in the English Department. Jason earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Indianapolis and his master’s degree from The Defiance College (OH). When not in the virtual classroom, Jason spends his time assisting teachers in developing curriculum and mentoring students in East Africa. In his spare time, he works with the local community in developing soccer programs and spending time traveling with his wife.
Mrs. Nancy Slagle
Nancy Slagle began teaching with AVE in 2016 and is the current English teacher for the Ben Davis Extended Day program at Ben Davis High School. She had 14 years of previous English teaching experience before coming to the MSD of Wayne Township. Mrs. Slagle is also a former speech teacher and drama director who has led student trips to California and Chicago and once took a group of students skydiving.
Mrs. Slagle earned her BA in English Education from Cedarville University in Ohio with minors in Speech and Theater. Mrs. Slagle is married and has four grown children. She lives in a log home that her husband built and loves to read, travel, and try out new vegan recipes in her spare time.
