AP Psychology Course Description:

Length/Credits: 1 semester – 1 credit
Open to: Grades 11, 12
Prerequisite: None

The AP Psychology course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals.

Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles and phenomena associated with each major sub field within psychology.

Students also learn about the methods psychologists use in their science and practice.

Topics covered include: history and approaches; research methods; biological bases of behavior; sensation and perception; states of consciousness, learning, cognition, motivation and emotion; development psychology; personality; testing and individual differences; abnormal psychology; treatment of psychological disorders and social psychology.

It provides students with a learning experience equivalent to most college introductory psychology courses. This is a preparation course for the Advanced Placement Psychology examination offered in the spring.
