Taking Summer School to Get Ahead, Not Catch Up

Why Taking Online Summer School Classes Is a Good Idea

While the narrative around summer school has long been about students needing it to catch up, summer is actually a perfect time to get ahead. Online summer school through Achieve Virtual allows high school students to truly enjoy all of the good things the summer months bring while simultaneously getting ahead in their educational career.

This allows students to travel with family during the summer or work a part- or full-time job. If a student wants to do coursework from the library or from the living room of a friend’s house, online summer school programs allow it.

With Achieve Virtual’s high school summer school, students have access to courses that are taught by certified Indiana educators and accredited by the state’s Department of Education. When students need assistance, one-on-one attention is available, providing them with access to a personalized learning experience not always available in a traditional classroom.

Why Get Ahead with Online Summer Courses?

If a student is thinking about college, online summer school is a wonderful way to be as prepared as possible. The online environment of a summer school program will largely mimic the online environment of a college course. Taking an online course will allow students to familiarize themselves with the structure, pace, and rigor of a typical college course.

College admissions boards are also looking to see the academic achievements of each student. Taking prerequisite courses over the summer allows students to take more advanced courses such as AP classes that may lead to college credit during fall or spring semesters.

Getting ahead during online summer school also allows students to free up their schedules during the traditional school year to take specialized elective courses or classes that meet their academic and/or creative interests.

Let’s explore an example of a high-achieving student who wants to be set up for success in college and beyond. This student is attending a public Indiana high school and just finished their junior year. During their junior year, they completed algebra II. This student would like to set themselves up to take calculus for college credit during their senior year, but they haven’t yet completed pre-calculus.

This student could enroll in a seven-week online course in pre-calculus and when the school year rolls around in August for this student’s senior year, they’ll be prepared to tackle earning college credit in calculus.

What to Expect with Online Summer Classes?

As a student at Achieve Virtual Education Academy, you can expect high quality, rigorous coursework created and taught by highly qualified, Indiana educators. Our students are held to the same high standard as a traditional high school, but with the flexibility of time and learning environment.

While an Achieve Virtual student generally works from home, they are anything but isolated and alone. We pride ourselves in providing support, communication, and socialization opportunities for our students and their families.

For our high-achieving students looking to get ahead, Achieve Virtual allows for the flexibility to move at a quicker pace and provides for multiple scaffolding opportunities. You can rest assured that each Achieve Virtual summer course will provide the same academic rigor as any similar course taught throughout the year. All the courses mentioned (and more!) are available this summer at Achieve Virtual.

Don’t miss your opportunity to make a positive change, and work ahead with summer school.
